Have you ever dreamed of the freedom
to properly cruise the med?
We are considering making our Nauticat 42 sailing boat Seraphina available for long term charter in the Med for 2022.
She is a completely refitted 1998 Nauticat 42 with all modern navigation, electronics, sails, rigging.
Nauticats are world renowned as extremely comfortable and safe boat. Whether you wanted to potter down the Croatian coast or if you want to do a full tour of the med.
If you’ve ever dreamed of owning your own yacht, want to try out the cruising lifestyle or just want to have a nice long holiday then here is your chance.
Why we are considering chartering
We’re considering chartering as after four years of refitting to the highest standards ready for round the world sailing and living aboard we’re taking 1-2 years off. After that we’re planning to complete a circumnavigation so this is a limited chance!
About the boat
We have spent the last four years lovingly replacing almost every electrical and mechanical system on the boat.
- 3 cabins, sleeps 5 max
- Fully refitted
- Tender + 3.5hp outboard
- B&G navigation, ForwardScan, Repeaters & Tablet for navigation
- AIS, Epirb, Offshore & Coastal lifejackets all with MOB1 AIS SARTs
- Fully offgrid solar set-up with lithium batteries & diesel generator
- Sound system in cockpit, saloon and master cabin
- Electronic windlass
- SatPhone and 4G outdoor router (generally works up to 4-10nm from coast)
- 150L fridge + 35L freezer, free use of all supplies on boat (herbs, spices, condiments, pots, pans, everything except the good whisky!)
- Full set of spares, tools and round the clock support from us
Note: She is currently Dutch flagged and under Dutch flag it’s quite hard to charter. If we found the right person/couple we would reflag the boat to Poland as a commercial boat and it would be fully insured like a regular charter boat.
Full boat tour
This video is a little old and we should really update with new one. Currently she is a few thousand miles from us so we’ll do it when back.
Since this tour we have completely revarnished the interior, replaced seat cushions, added a new sprayhood, bimini, solar arch and replaced the majority of the navigation electronics.
Seraphina is our home and is considerably higher spec than any other monohull for charter that you’ll find in the med. For that reason we’re only chartering to experienced skippers.
You should have some or all of the following:
- Have at least a YachtMaster coastal or equivalent experience
- Have recent sailing experience over 500 miles in the last 3 years
- A sailing reference: another skipper, local sailing club, association, race class would be ideal
If you do not have the bit of paper that is fine we can have a conversation and we might recommend/agree assuming completion of a refresher course with your local RYA sailing school. We’ll take the cost of the course off the charter fee if you’re up to scratch.
Once you’re out there sailing you will be responsible for keeping the boat in shape and minor repairs as they arise. We will of course be there for you on the end of the phone as needed.
We’ve found the best way to sail is without a fixed timeline. So, we are happy to be flexible with start and end locations and can discuss your plans and find something that works with any next charters etc.
We’re happy for you to cruise across borders as long as you keep to EU countries.
Now we’re getting to the real meat on the bone. We’ve priced what we believe is fair and competitive considering other companies only offer very slight discounts for extended charters.
Based on initial conversations we’re expecting a full calendar for 2022.
Rates in the med for a high spec 42ft low season are around €1,500 – €2,000 low season are around €2,500 – €3,000 high season (June-Sept)
- 6-8 weeks: 45% discount on the average of the mid-point;
- 9+ weeks: 50% discount on the average of the mid-point;
For any charter we will include a 2-3 day training sail and hand over on top of your booking period. This is to get you familiar with the boat, all of its systems and how to get the best out of her while sailing.
You will be responsible for any cruising fees in the areas you sail in. At time of writing 104 euro a month in Greece and 600 euros a month for Croatia. Free all other EU countries.
You’ll also be responsible for making sure the boat and your crew is properly checked in and/out when you arrive/leave countries and we can walk you through how that usually works.
6 weeks cruising from May until mid June
€3,850 + €3,025 = €6,875 or €1,145 per week vs Normal charter €12,500 or €2,080 per week
8 weeks cruising July until end August
€10,500 or €1,310 per week vs. Normal charter €22,000eur or €2,750 per week
We can discuss booking and safety deposits etc by phone and are happy to discuss different charter lengths etc.
